Khamenei points fingers at ‘nefarious’ US, Iran’s ‘major enemy’

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei returns to castigating the US for opposing the Islamic Republic’s Mideast power grab.

Iran’s supreme leader said that the US’ “wickedness” is causing it to destroy the nuclear deal with the Islamic Republic.

Speaking at a meeting with thousands of school and university students in Tehran on Thursday, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated that the US’ “animosity towards Iran has blinded their calculation vision, leading them to repeat their mistakes,” the IRNA reported.

He further charged the US with “using all the wickedness to destroy the fruit of the nuclear talks.”

“The US is literally the nefarious and major enemy, and [this notion] is a fact established not through bias and pessimism, but through experience, realization of issues, and facts,” said Khamenei.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly last month, Trump stated that the Iran nuclear deal was “one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the US has ever entered into. Frankly, that deal is an embarrassment to the United States, and I don’t think you’ve heard the last of it. Believe me.”

Commenting on President Donald Trump’s calling Iran a “terrorist nation,” Khmanei said that “these absurd words show that not only are the Americans an enemy of Iran’s leader and government, but they also hold a grudge against Iranian people who have tirelessly resisted against them.”

In in a keynote speech given last month, Trump charged that Iran is “under the control of a fanatical regime” that has “spread death, destruction and chaos all around the globe.” He warned that “history has shown that the longer we ignore a threat the more dangerous that threat becomes.”

Criticizing those who believe Iran should “give in a little, so that the enmities abate,” Khamenei said that “historical experiences indicate that the Americans don’t have any mercy even for those who put hope in the US,” relating to former Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddeq, who turned to the US and trusted them to counter Britain, but it was the Americans “who deposed him in a coup.”

Mosaddeq, who nationalized Iran’s oil industry, was the democratically elected prime minister of Iran from 1951 until August 1953, when his government was toppled, allegedly by the CIA and the United Kingdom’s Secret Intelligence Service (SIS).

The US Congress is considering steps to toughen the existing law governing US participation in the Iran nuclear deal, in an effort to target more of Iran’s belligerent activities.

US sanctions against Iran would automatically kick in if Tehran violated the new constraints, according to a draft Republican bill sought by Trump, as he tries to unravel the landmark 2015 international accord to prevent Iran from assembling an arsenal of atomic weapons.
