A Palestinian terrorist who is accused of murdering IDF St.-Sgt. Ronen Lubarsky in May was indicted in a military court on Thursday.

Islam Yusuf Hamid, 32, a resident of the Al-Am’ari neighborhood on the outskirts of Ramallah, allegedly threw a marble slab which led to the death of 20-year-old Lubarsky.

Lubarsky, a combat soldier from the elite Duvdevan Commando Unit, was severely injured during operational activity to apprehend a squad of Palestinian terrorists involved in recent shooting attacks in the area. One suspect was apprehended during the operation. Lubarsky died hours later.

Hamid was charged with murder and with obstruction of justice for tampering with the crime scene after the incident.

Hamid comes from a family of Hamas terrorists, and his brothers have carried out several terrorist attacks leading to the deaths of Israelis, including the February 1994 shooting death of Shin Bet operative Noam Cohen.

Hamid himself had been incarcerated in Israeli prison from 2004 to 2009 for terrorist activities committed on behalf of the Hamas terror group.

Ari Lubarsky, Ronen’s brother, demanded that Hamid be given the death penalty and not be imprisoned.

Instead of putting the terrorists in jail, Lubarsky said that “the party must end. The terrorist’s four brothers are imprisoned in Israelis jails. We demand one thing from the Military Advocate General: the death penalty for the terrorist.”

Hamid was remanded until the proceedings against him concluded.
