Intel had Hamas’ Oct. 7th plan, but hidden from IDF, gov’t leaders

IDF intelligence unit obtained 40-page plan detailing plan for October 7th terror onslaught, but did not share it with Netanyahu or the military’s top brass.

The Israeli army’s elite intelligence unit obtained a Hamas document detailing the terror group’s plan to invade Israel, but that asset was never shared with senior government or military leadership, according to a new report.

In April 2022, more than a year before the October 7th massacres, Unit 8200 secured a copy of the 40-page plan. The document laid out Hamas’ strategy for overwhelming security along the Gaza border and infiltrating into Israel.

Code-named Walls of Jericho by IDF intelligence, the document “called for a barrage of rockets at the outset of the attack, drones to knock out the security cameras and automated machine guns along the border, and gunmen to pour into Israel en masse in paragliders, on motorcycles and on foot — all of which happened on Oct. 7th,” the New York Times reported.

But despite a clear outline for the terror onslaught, senior IDF intelligence figures independently decided that Hamas was not capable of executing such a widescale operation against Israel.

According to a Channel 12 report, the document – translated into Hebrew from the original Arabic – was viewed by IDF intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Aharon Haliva, 8200 commander Brig. Gen. Yossi Sariel, Gaza Division commander Brig. Gen. Avi Rosenfeld, and then-IDF Southern Command chief Maj. Gen. Eliezer Toledano.

Notably, none of them passed on the report or any information within it to the IDF’s top brass, including IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi or Israel Air Force chief Maj. Gen. Tomer Bar.

The plan was also not shared with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

Former IDF intelligence chief Aharon Ze’evi Farkash told Hebrew-language Channel 12 News that the decision to ignore the report, rather than share its contents with senior governmental or military figures, was inexplicable.

The plan clearly demonstrated that “Hamas was not deterred” and was actively plotting against Israel, Ze’evi Farkash said.

The document necessitated “thorough investigation,” he added, as opposed to being shelved and ignored.
