‘I felt bullet ripping through my skin’ – Trump speaks out after assassination attempt

Former President Donald Trump released from hospital after being shot in the ear by a sniper during a rally in Pennsylvania.

Former President and 2024 presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump was released from the hospital overnight, after being admitted following an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania Saturday.

At just after 6:00 p.m. Saturday, 14 shots were fired at Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Security personnel later shot and killed the gunman, who was sniping at the president from the roof of a building roughly 140 yards away.

One person was killed and two others seriously wounded in the shooting, while Trump was lightly wounded.

Secret Service agents assigned to the former president whisked him out of the rally in his motorcade to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment after the shooting.

The former president was admitted to the hospital Saturday evening, before being released Saturday night, reportedly returning to a residence in New Jersey later in the night.

Trump later took to social media to respond to the attack, writing on Truth Social early Sunday morning that he had been shot in the right ear.

“I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania,” Trump wrote.

“Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country.”

“Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
