IDF warns Hezbollah is hunting senior commanders with advanced surveillance

Senior IDF officials believe Hezbollah has rebuilt its intelligence network in southern Lebanon and is now using advanced surveillance technology to track and target Israeli commanders, particularly during nighttime operations.

Military investigations into several recent attacks—including the deaths of the commander of the 52nd Battalion and three soldiers, the serious wounding of a former 401st Brigade commander, and the killing of the deputy commander of the 36th Division—suggest Hezbollah is intercepting radio activity and combining it with drones, observers, cameras, and Iranian-supplied intelligence systems to identify senior officers on the battlefield.

The findings have triggered an urgent review of IDF operational procedures as commanders warn Hezbollah’s improved intelligence capabilities pose a growing threat. The assessment comes as Washington presses Israel to scale back operations ahead of Tuesday’s Israel-Lebanon talks, even as Hezbollah appears to be adapting and strengthening its battlefield tactics.
