IDF jets struck a Hamas tunnel near the Erez Crossing in the northern Gaza Strip, an IDF spokesman said Saturday night after earlier reports that missiles had been fired on Hamas targets in the area. The spokesman said the tunnel had been dug meters from the border, but had not yet crossed into Israel.

According to Palestinian sources, around 10 missiles were fired at the targets.

Among the IDF’s targets on Saturday evening were infrastructure targets belonging to the military wing of Hamas near Beit Hanoun in the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian reports.

An IDF spokesman confirmed ongoing military activity in the area.

Earlier Saturday, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman approved the closure of the Kerem Shalom crossing from Gaza following after Friday’s events in which rioters vandalized and ignited fires on the Palestinian side of the crossing and damaged gas pipelines that run from Israel to Gaza.

The IDF estimated that some 15,000 Palestinians participated in riots along the Gaza border Friday. An army spokesman said the rioters hurled pipe bombs, rocks, and grenades, sabotaged security infrastructure, and burned tires.
