Elite IDF troops kill armed Palestinian in shootout

The IDF continues its operation to stamp out the Palestinian illegal weapons trade.

The IDF’s elite Duvedevan undercover unit encountered an armed Palestinian on Wednesday night and killed him in a shootout.

The unit was operating in the Palestinian village of Jabel Jooar, in the Hebron area, to locate illegal weapons when the soldiers encountered an armed Palestinian who opened fire on them. In response to the immediate threat, the IDF forces fired back and killed him. His weapon was recovered.

Similarly, on Wednesday IDF forces sealed a Palestinian workshop located in Abu Dis, east of Jerusalem. The workshop was used to produce illegal weapons.

These weapon busts are the latest among dozens of successful operations carried out by Israeli forces to stem the flow of illegal weapons traded by Palestinians.

Since the beginning of 2016, in a special effort to stop prolific Palestinian weapons production, Israeli forces have shut some 45 plants in the Judea and Samaria region and seized over 50 gun-producing machines, and at least 450 weapons.

Security forces arrested more than 160 suspects tied to the production and selling of illegal weapons that were used in many attacks against Israeli civilians.

In related news, IDF forces conducted counter-terror raids throughout Judea and Samaria overnight Wednesday. They arrested six Palestinians wanted in connection with terrorism and acts of violence.
