France and others are weighing similar steps. At Israel’s weekly cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to “fight” efforts to promote Palestinian statehood at this week’s UN General Assembly, warning such moves would “endanger Israel’s existence” and “reward terror.” He said he will lay out Israel’s case during his speech in New York and then meet with US President Donald Trump. In response to the recognition moves, leaders of the Yesha Council convened an emergency meeting.
