The IDF pounded Hamas targets inside Gaza on Monday night in response to several rockets fired by Palestinian terrorists at Israel earlier.

The terrorists fired one rocket towards the city of Ashkelon, triggering the siren system in the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council. The Iron Dome Aerial Defense System intercepted a rocket above the city.

No injuries or damage were reported.

In response to the rocket attack, an IDF tank and the Israel Air Force (IAF) targeted Hamas terror posts in the northern Gaza Strip.

Earlier in the evening, rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip towards southern Israel. Hits inside Israeli territory have not been identified.

In response to this attack, an IDF tank and the IAF targeted Hamas terror posts in the southern Gaza Strip.

“The IDF holds the Hamas terror organization accountable for this hostile act originating in the Gaza Strip,” an IDF spokesman stated.

Recent days have seen a spike in rockets attacks from Gaza, following President Donald Trump’s announcement that the US recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Several rockets were fired at Israel from Gaza over the weekend, including one that hit near a home in the city of Sderot and another one that damaged a kindergarten. A third rocket was intercepted by an Iron Dome system.

In retaliation, Israel targeted a number of Hamas positions, killing two Hamas terrorists.

“The enemy will pay the price for breaking the rules of engagement with the resistance in Gaza,” Hamas’ Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades said in a statement on Sunday.

While tensions are high on the border with Gaza, the IDF estimates that Hamas is not seeking to escalate the situation and engage in a full-blown armed conflict with Israel, at this time.
