The Israeli Air Force (IAF) struck several Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip overnight Saturday-Sunday in response to a rocket attack on Israel earlier in the evening, the second one in 24 hours.

“Fighter jets and helicopter gunships attacked several Hamas targets, including a military compound with several underground rocket production workshops, a weapons storage site, a training facility, and a terror tunnel used by Hamas,” the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said in a statement.

The attacks was a response to two rocket attacks on southern Israel in less than 24 hours. The latest was fired toward the city of Sderot. The Iron Dome Defense system intercepted the missile mid-air.

A similar attack occurred Friday night, raising the threat of renewed conflict. Gazan terrorists launched a rocket toward Israel, which was intercepted by an Iron Dome battery.

A 29-year-old resident of Sderot was lightly injured while running toward a bomb shelter and was treated at Ashkelon’s Barzilai Medical Center.

The IAF struck a Hamas machine gun post, storage site and military compound in response.

In Gaza, local sources reported that the attack caused damage to property but no casualties.

The IDF stated that it “will not accept a situation in which the terrorist organizations are working against the Israeli home front,” and “will continue to respond strongly to terrorist acts from the Gaza Strip and considers Hamas to be responsible for everything that is happening in the Gaza Strip.”

The Islamic Jihad terror organization is believed to be behind the attacks, possibly a response to the capture of four terrorists who escaped from prison and who were recaptured by Israeli forces over the weekend. Three of them are members of the Islamic Jihad.

Tensions remained high in Judea and Samaria over the weekend as well, with several hundred Palestinians clashing with IDF troops in a number of areas.
