A 38-year old Palestinian man was arrested Wednesday morning on the Italian island of Sardinia for planning to carry out a chemical attack and poison the local water supply.

Local police were monitoring the suspect for an extended period before carrying out the arrest, according to Italian media reports. They first blockaded the area in order to prevent his escape.

The man, originally from Lebanon and reportedly affiliated with ISIS, holds a Palestinian passport and an Italian residency permit.
