Trump advisor rips ‘shallow isolationist’ Tucker Carlson over Israel

Aide to President Trump slams the president’s erstwhile ally Tucker Carlson, accusing him of promoting a “shallower” version of Pat Buchanan’s “isolationism.”

A senior aide to President Donald Trump took aim at right-wing podcaster Tucker Carlson this week, denigrating the erstwhile Trump ally’s foreign policy views.

On Tuesday, Dr. Sebastian Gorka took part in an hour-long discussion hosted by the Hudson Institute in Washington DC, fielding questions from moderator Michael Doran on developments in the Middle East and the Trump administration’s policies vis-a-vis the region.

Gorka, who currently serves both as deputy assistant to the president and as senior director for the National Security Council’s counter-terrorism department, also advised Trump during the first seven months of his first time in office.

When asked by Doran to comment on the emergence of what he called the “Tucker Carlson stream” of the MAGA movement, referring to the isolationist views of Carlson and other right-wing figures including pundit Candace Owens and Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, Gorka downplayed its importance, saying Carlson’s foreign policy beliefs do not reflect those of most American conservatives.

“I think it is probably half a dozen very loud people on Twitter and Rumble,” Gorka said.

“If you get out of the miasma, the cesspit that is social media and you talk to representative MAGA voters, of the 80 million that put the president back in the White House, they don’t think that… Israel is the reason for October the 7th. They actually have a very special place in their heart for Israel.”

“And they don’t think that hospitals being bombed in Ukraine is a good thing because somebody offered NATO membership to Ukraine, allegedly, a decade ago.”

“They understand who was responsible for October the 7th.”

Gorka went on to call Carlson a “shallower version” of Pat Buchanan, a former Republican political consultant and paleoconservative pundit who ran for president on the Reform ticket in 2000, after challenging President George H.W. Bush and Senator Bob Dole for the GOP nomination in 1992 and 1996.

“This wing of isolationism is nothing new,” Gorka said.

“We had this 100 years ago, and this is just a poor, substandard repackaging of neo-Buchananite isolationism.”

“The Tucker right-wing is basically, you know, Pat Buchanan in a new guise. It is actually a shallower version. Pat is far smarter than this version of isolationism.”

Carlson, 56, had campaigned actively on Trump’s behalf in 2024, before criticizing the president over his administration’s support for Israel during the 12-day war with Iran.

Trump responded by calling Carlson “kooky,” and defending his position that Iran must be prevented from acquiring nuclear weapons.
