“We just identified a number of armed suspects from Gaza approaching the security fence with Israel. We fired towards them,” the Israel Defense Forces tweeted Saturday night. The suspects turned out to be four terrorists who planned to carry out an attack in Israel.

An IDF attack helicopter and tank fired on the terrorists, the IDF reported.

There has been a series of infiltration attempts in recent days. On August 10, Israel said it foiled a “significant attack” on Israel when it eliminated four heavily armed terrorists from breaking through the border into Israel. They carried rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), hand grenades and machine guns.

A day later another terrorist opened fire at Israeli soldiers on the Gaza border. He was shot and killed by return fire.

Tensions have risen on the Gaza border. On Friday and Saturday night, terrorists fired three missiles into Israel which were intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system. The rockets broke a month-long period of relative calm.

Two Israelis were injured in their rush to bomb shelters, a 40-year-old man and a 76-year-old woman. Their injuries were not listed as serious. Another woman was reportedly treated for shock as a result of the attack. There were other minor injuries, most related to running to shelter as the red alert sirens sounded.

However, the “March of Return,” which takes place weekly on the Gaza border in which 1,000s of Gazans riot was reported as not being any more violent than usual this Friday.

Instability has also returned to Judea and Samaria. A Palestinian terrorist rammed a brother and sister with a stolen car on Friday. They were heading to a family holiday. They are in the hospital in serious condition. The terrorist was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer who happened to be on-scene.

That incident followed the killing of Jewish student Dvir Sorek earlier this month. He was stabbed to death and left by the side of the road near the school where he studied. At least one of the two killers belonged to Hamas. They have been apprehended.
