Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu welcomed US President Donald Trump’s decision to snap back sanctions on Iran Monday and called on European leaders to follow suit.

“I praise President Trump and the American government for making the important decision to restore sanctions on Iran. This is an important moment for Israel, the United States, the region and the entire world. It symbolizes the determination to block Iran’s aggression around the region, as well as Iran’s plans to obtain nuclear weapons.

“I call on European countries, who speak so often about stopping Iran, to join this action. The time for talking has past; the time for action is now. This is exactly what the United States has done and it is what Europe should do as well,” Netanyahu said.

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman also praised the move as a decision that would alter the course of history.

“The sanctions imposed by the US Administration against Iran are now in the process of coming into force,” Liberman wrote.

“In a courageous decision which will be remembered for generations, US President Donald Trump altered course on Iran. Misguided agreements and appeasement have been replaced by a resolute campaign to stop the murderous regime of the ayatollahs, that spreads terror, violence and hatred throughout the entire Middle East,” he added.

Education Minister Naftali Bennett added that Trump’s decision should “stand as a lesson to Iran’s leaders and the whole world. Iran must end its genocidal ambitions, and its spread of hatred, instability, and terror across the region.”
