Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu headed up north on Sunday to discuss the Iranian threat with Israel’s defense minister and Northern Command’s senior military officers.

During the meeting, Netanyahu was briefed by Defense Minister Naftali Bennett, GOC Northern Commander Amir Baram, IDF Bashan Division Commander Amit Fisher, and IDF Deputy Chief-of-Staff Eyal Zamir.

“Iran’s aggression in our region, and against us, continues. We are taking all necessary actions to prevent Iran from entrenching here in our region,” Netanyahu said. “This includes the activity necessary to thwart the transfer of lethal weaponry from Iran to Syria, whether by air or over land.”

“We will also take action to thwart Iran’s effort to turn Iraq and Yemen into bases for launching rockets and missiles against the State of Israel. Our commitment and our readiness to struggle against Iranian aggression is absolute and we are acting with all means to prevent Iran from achieving its goals,” he added.

The prime minister did not specify the actions his government is taking to combat the Iranian threat.

The Northern Command was established at the end of the War of Independence, and is charged with defending Israel’s northern borders from any regional threat.

The division is composed of the Golani Brigade, 7th Armored Brigade, 188th Armored Brigade, and the Division 282 of the Artillery Corps.

“I am doing everything necessary to continue the work of the government and the Security Cabinet,” Netanyahu stressed. “To preserve the security of the citizens of Israel and the things that are essential for the State of Israel.”

Bennett said that Iran should give up its relentless pursuit to destroy Israel and focus on the well-being of its citizens instead.

“Our message to those Iranian terror forces in Syria: You have nothing to look for here, you have nothing to try to establish. Whatever you try to do here – you will encounter a strong, determined IDF that will harm you,” he said.
