Report: US, Iran to Sign Deal Next Week

German outlet Bild reports the U.S. and Iran are expected to meet in Islamabad next week to sign an agreement, citing an Iranian source.

Additional reporting from Le Figaro, quoting a senior Pakistani official involved in the mediation, said the sides could soon sign a memorandum of understanding, to be followed by a comprehensive agreement within 60 days. “Both sides agree on the principle,” the source said, adding that the remaining issues are largely technical.

President Donald Trump said Thursday night that Iran has offered a commitment not to pursue nuclear weapons for more than 20 years. “We have a very strong statement,” he said, expressing confidence that an agreement to end the war is “getting closer.”
