Lebanon makes shocking admission about Israel’s right to fight Hezbollah

Lebanese foreign minister urges Hezbollah’s leadership to accept US demands that the terror group disarm, adding that Israel is entitled to continue to strike Hezbollah positions in Lebanon as long as it refuses to surrender its arsenal.

Lebanon this week publicly acknowledged for the first time ever that Israel is entitled under the terms of the November 2024 ceasefire agreement to carry out military strikes against the Hezbollah terror organization.

The admission was made by Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji, a member of the predominantly Maronite Christian Lebanese Forces party, during an interview with Sky News Arabia on Monday.

During the interview, Rajji vowed that Beirut is committed to upholding its obligations under the 2024 ceasefire deal, including the full disarmament of all armed groups other than the Lebanese military – including Hezbollah and other pro-Iranian organizations.

The ceasefire, he said, not only marked the end of Israel’s invasion of southern Lebanon but also “stipulates the removal of weaponry, particularly Hezbollah’s weapons.”

Lebanon, which recently claimed that it has completed phase one of its plan to disarm Hezbollah, including removing terrorist infrastructure south of the Litani River, will soon begin implementing phase two of the disarmament plan.

Rajji blasted Hezbollah for refusing to cooperate with the Lebanese army, arguing that Hezbollah’s weapons “have become a burden for the Shi’ite community and for Lebanon,” and warning that the terror group’s arsenal “will not protect” it or Lebanon.

“It is the Lebanese people who are demanding the exclusivity of arms, not what the United States or the international parties want,” he said.

The Lebanese foreign minister then added that so long as Hezbollah refuses to disarm, Israel has the right to strike the terror group.

“The [negotiating team] and the Lebanese government agreed to Israel’s terms,” Rajji said, “which are subject to international guarantees.”

“This [ceasefire] agreement means that Lebanon agreed to disarm Hezbollah, and in return, Israel will cease hostilities [in Lebanon]. So long as Hezbollah is not fully disarmed, Israel has the right – and it is very unfortunate – but it has the right to continue its attacks.”
