Netanyahu dismisses as ‘fake news’ NBC report of disagreement with Trump over alleged starvation in Gaza

NBC reported that Trump yelled at Netanyahu on the phone in July over the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed as “fake news” NBC’s reports that U.S. President Donald Trump yelled at the premier on the phone concerning allegations of starvation in Gaza.

The PMO stated that the report was “completely false” and characterized it as “fake news.”

In yet another case of the media reporting a rift between close allies, Netanyahu and Trump, NBC, citing two Israeli officials, said that Trump yelled at Netanyahu on the phone in July.

Netanyahu was telling Trump that, contrary to what Hamas was telling the media, there is no starvation in Gaza.

“Trump interrupted Netanyahu and began yelling, saying that he did not want to hear that the starvation is fake and that his aides had shown him proof that children there are starving,” officials told NBC.

The call was described by the officials as “a direct, mostly one-way conversation about the status of humanitarian aid” in which Trump “was doing most of the talking.”

The officials say that the White House is focusing significant attention on allegations of starvation in Gaza because of the U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.

Following the call, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff traveled to Israel to assess the situation on the ground and to propose a plan to remedy the humanitarian situation and bring back the hostages remaining in Gaza.

Many media outlets interpreted the public statements made by the two leaders as contradictory on the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

On July 27, Netanyahu, in a speech, declared, “There is no policy of starvation in Gaza, and there is no starvation in Gaza.”

In a visit with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump told a journalist, “Children in Gaza look very hungry,” adding that there is “real starvation.”

“You can’t fake that,” he concluded.

The remarks preceded the investigative report by David Collier that the apparently emaciated toddler featured on the cover of The New York Times was, in fact, a child with cystic fibrosis whose condition was unrelated to the war.

Although The New York Times posted a retraction, it was only published on a social media page with a limited number of followers rather than on the newspaper’s main account.
