By World Israel News Staff A large-scale operation of Israel’s Mossad inside of Iranian territory crippled Iran’s air defense network, paving the way for the Israel Air Force strikes early Friday morning, an Israeli security official claims. Some 200 Israeli fighter jets dropped over 350 munitions on more than 100 locations across Iran in a series of airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear program, its ballistic missile manufacturing facilities, senior military leadership, and its air defense network. In a statement released Friday morning, an IDF spokesperson said that Israeli warplanes had inflicted serious damage to Iran’s air defense, which had already sustained damage in retaliatory strikes by Israel last September. “In recent hours, Israeli Air Force fighter jets, guided by precise intelligence from the Intelligence Directorate, completed a wide-scale strike against the Iranian regime’s air defense array in western Iran,” the IDF said. “As part of the strikes, dozens of radars and surface-to-air missile launchers were destroyed.” “These strikes enhance the Israeli Air Force’s freedom of aerial maneuver.” According to an Israeli security official cited by Channel 12‘s Amit Segal, a massive Mossad operation inside of Iran also played a key role in knocking out the Islamic republic’s air defense systems. Mossad commando teams reportedly used precision guided munitions to destroy Iranian air defense assets just as Israel Air Force jets prepared to strike their targets in Iran. In addition, the official said, the Mossad operatives in Iran oversaw attacks on Iran’s ballistic missile program. Israel’s military said Friday that Iran has been secretly pursuing an expanded ballistic missile production program, with the intention of securing a large arsenal of strategic missiles to overwhelm Israel’s own missile defense network. Drones operated by Mossad forces in Iran reportedly were used to destroy surface-to-surface missile launchers outside of Tehran, blunting Iran’s ability to strike Israel directly. Iran managed to launch over 100 suicide drone aircraft on Friday following Israel’s airstrikes, though the IDF later announced that the drones had been intercepted and destroyed, removing the immediate threat to Israeli civilians.
