A report on Israeli TV that the US embassy in Israel will be moved to Jerusalem within days was “premature,” the White House stated.

Israel’s Channel 2 reported Wednesday night that President Donald Trump is expected to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move the US embassy there from Tel Aviv within days.

The report came a day after Vice-President Mike Pence, addressing the 70th anniversary celebration of the UN vote calling for the creation of a Jewish state, said: “As we speak, President Trump is actively considering when and how to move the American Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.”

“This is a premature report. We have nothing to announce,” Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Trump’s press secretary, stated.

Legislation enacted by Congress in 1995 would automatically transfer the embassy to Jerusalem, but each president since then has been signing a waiver every six months. Trump renewed the waiver on June 1, despite his election campaign promise to move the embassy.
