Trump, Netanyahu plan to ban Muslim Brotherhood in US, Israel

Prime Minister Netanyahu lauds Trump for reported plans to blacklist the Muslim Brotherhood in the US, hints at bid to ban an Arab party affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood from the Knesset.

President Donald Trump is set to ban the Muslim Brotherhood  movement, adding it to the terrorism blacklist.

According to a statement made to Just the News on Sunday, Trump confirmed that he is preparing to ban the Islamist Sunni movement.

“It will be done in the strongest and most powerful terms,” Trump said. “Final documents are being drawn.”

Trump’s comments to the outlet came days after JTN published an exposé on the Muslim Brotherhood’s activities.

Shortly thereafter, Texas Governor Greg Abbott designated the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as foreign terrorist organizations.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in August that the administration was laying the groundwork for blacklisting the Muslim Brotherhood.

Hours after the report was published, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to Trump’s comments, praising the president for the move and hinting that Israel would ban an Arab Israeli political party tied to the Muslim Brotherhood.

“On this occasion, I also want to commend President Trump on his decision to outlaw and designate the Muslim Brotherhood organization as a terrorist organization,” Netanyahu said Sunday night.

“This is an organization that endangers stability throughout the Middle East and also beyond the Middle East. Therefore, the State of Israel has already outlawed part of the organization, and we are working to complete this action soon.”

Netanyahu’s comments appeared to hint at plans to ban the United Arab List (Ra’am) from the Knesset.

The political wing of the Southern Branch of the Islamic Movement in Israel, the UAL has five seats in the Knesset, and after the 2021 election held the balance of power, ultimately enabling Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid to form a government.

Israel has already banned the Northern Branch of the Islamic Movement in Israel over its support for terrorism and ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.

While the Southern Branch has sought to distance itself from Islamic terrorism, officially denying any connection to Hamas or the Muslim Brotherhood, UAL members have in the past met with members of Hamas and maintained ties with Muslim Brotherhood-linked networks.

Following Netanyahu’s comments, the UAL said it was “evaluating the legal situation” ahead of a possible ban.
