Iranians and British Jews join forces to protest Iranian regime

The Jewish group Stop the Hate joined forces with the Iranian Committee for Freedom to hold a rally near Downing Street in London on Sunday that drew about 3,000 people. Jewish activists and Iranian dissidents called on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to ban the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

“We won’t forget who stood by us at the hardest time,” said a protester who gave only her first name, Bahar.

She said that she came out to the protest “for the people of Iran…We want a revolution… The Islamic Republic supports Hamas, Hezbollah, the Taliban, and any terrorist organization, but the people of Iran are different. We never support the terrorists—we want peace; we want love in the Middle East.

She added that the regime is targeting the homes of Jews in Iran, accusing them of collaborating with Israel to stir up discontent in Iran. She said that people have a responsibility to speak out, to be the “voice of Iranians.”

“We have gathered here on the fourteenth day of the protests [amid] the ongoing revolution against the regime of the ayatollah and to show solidarity with the Iranians,” she said later in an interview. “The Jewish community has [joined us to do the same].”

“We are here to inform the prime minister that we are aware of his inaction, and we would like him to take action against the regime of the ayatollah and proscribe the IRGC [as a terrorist organization] and help Iranian people move into a brighter future,” she added.

Referring to the Iranian regime’s accusations that the United States and Israel had stoked the fires of rebellion among the people of Iran, she said that one can’t believe anything the government says.

“This regime is professional at lying,” she explained. “They lie like it’s the truth. Do not [believe what] they say. This regime’s atrocities are timeless, endless, and borderless.”

She also said that the regime poses a threat worldwide and cited terrorist attacks around the world to prove her point. “This regime is causing a [global] threat,” she said. “We have to stay united on this. We have to fight for the regime’s downfall.”

Itay Galmudy of Stop the Hate also spoke at the protest. “It was an honor to help organize a protest at Downing Street in solidarity with the Iranian people and to stand with our Iranian brothers and sisters,” he said later.

“For two years, during some of our darkest moments, the Iranian community stood with us. Today and every day, we stand with them in their struggle for freedom and human rights. We will be with the Iranian community every step of the way on the path to a free Iran.”

“We call on the UK government to listen to the voices of the people and to proscribe the IRGC,” he added.

“This is not only in response to the brutal repression of dissidents within Iran but also due to documented attempts to intimidate, threaten, and commit acts of violence against dissidents here on UK soil.”

“Stop the Hate stands firmly against oppression everywhere. Free Iran from the Islamic Republic,” he concluded.
