By World Israel News Staff The number of antisemitic posts on social media rose last year despite stronger enforcement of anti-bigotry policies by most platforms, a watchdog group said this week. On Tuesday, the CyberWell organization, which monitors antisemitism on social media, issued its 2025 annual report, documenting changes in online antisemitism and efforts by various platforms to combat the spread of bigoted and misleading material. The scope of antisemitism on social media continues to expand, the report said, despite a modest increase in the average removal rate of posts flagged as antisemitic. In 2024, on average, 50% of posts flagged as antisemitic were removed from social media platforms including TikTok, X, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. Last year, that rate rose to 52.5%, the report said. However, antisemitic social media users have become increasingly sophisticated in their use of major platforms, fueling an overall rise in anti-Jewish posts despite the modest increase in removal rates. The CyberWell report identified three dominant narratives shaping online antisemitic discourse in 2025: classic Jewish world domination conspiracies; scapegoating of Jews for global crises and violent events; and Conspiratorial Self-Victimization (CSV), a growing online narrative in which Jews are accused of staging violent attacks against themselves to gain sympathy, political advantage or shape public opinion. TikTok also removed 93.8% of posts flagged for engaging in Holocaust denial or distortion, compared to 77.4% on Meta’s three platforms (Facebook, Threads, and Instagram), and 58.3% on YouTube. Elon Musk’s X, however, saw a sharp decline in enforcement, with removal rates plummeting from 54.2% in 2024 to just 29.4% in 2025. CyberWell said X has downgraded the use of post removal in favor of visibility-limitation techniques. However, the report warned that these steps typically are used only after posts flagged for antisemitism have already gained significant engagement.
