Mexican police arrested a suspect in the murder of Israeli DJ Ronen Dahan (45), reported The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.

The detainee, 25, has a criminal record and was convicted of murder two years ago, according to Mexican media outlets.

The murder occurred on June 29 in San Luis Potosi while Dahan, known by his stage name DJ Perplex, was performing. The assailants burst in, opened fire, and killed Dahan, along with one other and wounded four.

Dahan established himself worldwide for his electronic dance music and had released 13 albums. His talents never took off in Israel, pushing the artist to perform all over the world.

Reports at the time said that the shootings were related to ongoing drug cartel violence and that Dahan was a victim in the dispute and not a direct target.

The DJ was born in France, but raised in Haifa.

Following Dahan’s murder, a successful fundraiser was launched on Facebook by Faders, a group of Israeli musicians, to bring his body back to Israel for burial.
