(Haim Zach/GPO)Haim Zach/GPONetanyahu on Gaza: Israel works ‘to prevent humanitarian collapse’After a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel dominated by the Iranian issue, the Israeli prime minister addressed the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.By: World Israel News StaffAt a press conference held in Berlin following a meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Israeli leader turned his attention away from the Iranian threat in Syria to discuss the plight of the Palestinians living under the Hamas terrorist organization’s regime.“The State of Israel works the most” on the Gaza humanitarian situation, Netanyahu declared, and “is perhaps the only one working on this issue.”Netanyhau explained at the press conference that he and Merkel had discussed a “plan to improve the crossings” to and from Gaza, a step necessitated by the economic crisis manufactured by Hamas. The terrorist group continues to spend foreign aid on rockets and tunnels designed to attack Israelis, instead of investing in civilian infrastructure and other basic needs. While Netanyahu addressed humanitarian issues related to Gaza’s civilian population, he also brought up the tremendous damage that has been caused by incendiary kites and balloons sent from the coastal enclave into Israeli territory. The prime minister noted that the Palestinians could be made to pay for the damage with a plan being formulated to withhold tax funds collected on behalf of the PA which could be used to compensate Israelis harmed by kite terror.
