Czech parliament condemns UNESCO anti-Semitic resolution

UNESCO’s recent anti-Semitic resolution, which ignores millennia-old Jewish ties to Jerusalem, has come under strong condemnation around the world.

The Czech parliament on Wednesday adopted a resolution condemning the recent United Nations Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (UNESCO) Executive Board resolution that denied the Jewish connection to Jerusalem, and especially the Temple Mount and the Western Wall.

“The Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic expresses its firm opposition to a resolution approved by the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO that denies the historical link between the Jewish people and the Western Wall and the Temple Mount in Jerusalem,” the motion read.

The Czech lawmakers also condemned what appears to be UNESCO’s denial of Christian ties to the holy sites in Jerusalem.

“The formulations are inconsistent with the peacemaking and neutral character of the United Nations, and ultimately strengthens international anti-Semitic tendencies,” the resolution read,

The resolution also slammed the UNESCO decision, which reflected a “hateful, anti-Israel” sentiment.

The lawmakers called on the country’s government to order Czech representatives in international organizations to object to future similar decisions.

Hundreds of people protested in Rome on Wednesday against Italy’s abstention in the UNESCO resolution denying Jerusalem’s Jewish heritage.

The controversial resolution, passed last Thursday, which was initiated by the Palestinians and received the support of mostly Muslim countries, referred to the Temple Mount and Western Wall only by their Arabic names, condemned Israel as an occupier, and ignored Jewish and Christian ties to the Old City and its holy sites, while stating that the Temple Mount – Judaism’s holiest site, where the First and Second Holy Temples stood – is holy to Muslims only.
