New Israeli robot detonates bombs remotely October 9, 2018IAI has developed a robot that can detect and neutralize bombs at no risk to the operators. The Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has completed the development of an autonomous improvised explosive device detection (IED) system, the company announced Monday. The system, a robotic engineering scout installed on a platform, integrates a combination of multiple sensors for detecting improvised explosive devices. It can detect bombs placed and hidden in complex areas and then engage and remove them as necessary by using a shovel installed on the vehicle. The system’s operation, maneuver and detection are done autonomously without danger to human life. The system, scheduled to be transferred for trial and evaluation purposes, is part of the SAHAR family, which includes a number of platforms that have an explosive-detection device and route-clearing capabilities. The robot can operate in any terrain and has a precision operation system that generates a real image of the arena.Meir Shabtai, general manager of the Robotic Systems Division, stated that this latest development is “another significant quantum leap in the field of unmanned vehicles, as IAI operates “intensively and is adapting its products to the future battlefield needs.”Source: Israel Aerospace Industries IEDIsrael Aerospace Industries
