Israel thwarted 70 terror attacks in past 2 months

The Shin Bet stopped over 70 attacks over the summer months.

The Shin Bet (Israel’s Security Agency) thwarted over 70 attacks in the past two months, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed.

Speaking during the weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday and ahead of a briefing by Shin Bet director Nadav Argaman, Netanyahu said that “Israelis are not aware of everything the Shin Bet does. In July and August, the Shin Bet thwarted over 70 terrorist cells that were planning attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians.”

He expressed his “deep gratitude” to the Shin Bet personnel and to “all those involved in this important work on behalf of the security of Israel.”

According to the Shin Bet’s monthly summary, July 2017 saw a sharp rise in the number of Palestinian terror attacks: 222 attacks including 185 firebomb attacks, compared to 94 in June.

In Judea and Samaria, 129 attacks were executed in July, compared to 72 in June.

87 attacks took place in Jerusalem in July, compared to 21 attacks there in June’.

Two attacks originated from the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula this month, compared to one in June.

Five Israelis were killed in terror attacks in July, three civilians and two security personnel, and seven were injured.

The stabbing attack in Halamish resulted in three murdered civilians and one injured.

In addition, two security personnel were killed in the Temple Mount shooting attack and another one was injured.

However, August saw a sharp decrease in the number of Palestinian attacks: 110 attacks including 83 firebomb attacks.

In Judea and Samaria, 83 attacks were executed in August, with 24 attacks occurring in Jerusalem during the same month.

Two attacks originated from the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula this month.

Two Israelis were injured in terrorist attacks in August.
