Tony Blair: Anti-Semitism ‘absolutely killing’ Labour party

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair said anti-Semitism in Labour is “absolutely killing the party,” in an address to the Board of Deputies of British Jews on Monday, The Daily Mail reports.

The paper also said that Blair, who once led the Labour party “predicted a volatile 2019 general election.”

Blair said voters on Dec. 12 will vote in a “non-tribal way,” which if proven correct, will mean a rout for Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who is largely held responsible for the rise of anti-Semitism in party ranks.

“Let me be frank, there is going to be a complete battle in the Labour Party because what has happened over these past years – particularly over anti-Semitism – is absolutely killing the party,” Blair said.

“There are really good Labour MPs that are standing in this election…

“People I know, people I’ve worked with. People who have stood up very strongly on anti-Semitism in the Labour Party and I want to see them supported,” he said.

British Jews have mobilized against Corbyn. The country’s three main Jewish papers combined efforts recently to publish warnings about a possible Corbyn win.

The Jewish News showed Corbyn in front of 10 Downing Street, the home of the prime minister, waving and smiling with the headline: “Nightmare Before Chanukah.”

On Oct. 31, Britain’s Jewish Labour Movement (JLM) announced that it won’t campaign for Corbyn in this year’s upcoming general elections.

“Fighting racism, prejudice and intolerance is at the heart of our Labour values. It is the failure of the leader and his supporters to live these values, which has led us to take this stance,” the group said.
