US to guarantee Israel won’t continue Gaza war – report

Latest US ceasefire proposal includes guarantees that Israel will not resume war with Hamas after hostages are returned.

The United States has offered the Hamas terror organization assurances that it will not permit Israel to resume hostilities against Hamas after a possible ceasefire and hostage deal, sources familiar with the negotiations say.

On Monday morning, Yedioth Aharonoth published a report citing unnamed sources who said that the latest American proposal for a hostage deal included “very significant guarantees” from the US that Israel would not continue its war on Hamas once a deal is reached.

The new deal framework, transmitted recently to Hamas by Gershon Baskin, an American-Israeli peace activist who helped broker the 2011 deal securing the release of Gilad Shalit, calls for a comprehensive agreement, including the immediate return of all 48 remaining captives and an end to the war in Gaza.

Monday’s report said that the deal includes provision for the “repositioning” of IDF forces in Gaza during negotiations with Hamas, though it is unclear whether Israel would be forced to withdraw entirely from the coastal enclave.

Hamas has hitherto demanded that the return of all Israeli hostages be accompanied by the removal of all Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that he is “considering” the new American proposal, though President Donald Trump recently claimed that Israel has already agreed to the new draft.

“Everyone wants the Hostages HOME. Everyone wants this War to end! The Israelis have accepted my Terms,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account on Sunday.

Later that day, Trump told reporters that a breakthrough in ceasefire talks was imminent.

“I think we’re going to have a deal on Gaza very soon,” Trump told media in New York City, after attending the US Open tennis tournament.
