Israeli arrested in Thailand for drug possession

Policemen and soldiers raided a guesthouse run by an Israeli who was arrested along with eight guests and charged with the use of an illegal substance.

An Israeli citizen was arrested in Thailand on Friday on suspicion of possessing an illegal substance.

The man, reportedly from Jerusalem, has lived in the country for the past decade and runs a well-known guesthouse in Bangkok.

Policemen and soldiers raided the guesthouse and eight guests were arrested and charged with the use of an illegal substance, supposedly for smoking marijuana.

The Israeli was charged with having 22 grams of drugs in his possession. A police spokesman announced he will be charged with the possession of an illegal substance with intent to sell.

Israel’s ambassador in Thailand Orit Shani has been alerted, and Israel’s foreign ministry is monitoring the developments.

Thailand is a very popular tourism destination for Israelis, and especially among those on post-IDF treks.
