Ocasio-Cortez wrongly claims ‘occupation of Palestine’ video was ‘doctored’

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez wrongly said a video clip in which she talked about the “occupation of Palestine” was altered.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) incorrectly said a July 2018 PBS Firing Live interview in which she talked about “the occupation of Palestine” was “doctored.” Rep. Ocasio-Cortez made the claim on news outlet The Intercept on Jan. 29.

Responding to a question by interviewer Ryan Grim, the freshman New York congresswoman said, “Oh yeah, the Firing Line, which then got doctored and then the doctored video is the one that made it on Fox News.”

The Daily Wire‘s Ryan Saavedra, who reported on the story, laid out the timeline of events that shows Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s claim is untrue. Her anti-Israel remarks on Firing Line were on July 15 and within two days it was picked up numerous new organizations, among them Fox News and CNN.

Then on July 24, nine days later, Allie Beth Stuckey of conservative online TV site CRTV produced a parody video of Ocasio-Cortez’s firing line video. It’s that video that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez refers to as “doctored.”

Noteworthy is that the parody video doesn’t address her Israel comments. The full parody can be seen below:

Allie Beth Stuckey tweeted in response to Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s comments that, “If she’s talking about my amazing parody video… Sorry, girl. We didn’t even include your Israel comments. Too much other great material to choose from.”

In the July 15 “Firing Line” episode, host Margaret Hoover asks Rep. Ocasio-Cortez to expand on her comments about the “occupation of Palestine.” The New York Congresswoman said, “”Um… I think what I meant is … like … the settlements that are increasing in some of these areas and places where Palestinians are experiencing difficulty in access to their housing and homes.”

When pressed further, the freshman Democrat said, ” I am not the expert on geo-politics on this issue.”
