UN demands Israel cancel Oct. 7 terror tribunal

UN Human Rights Commissioner Volker Turk called on Israel to overturn its newly approved law creating a special tribunal to prosecute Hamas terrorists involved in the October 7 massacre.

The legislation, backed by an overwhelming Knesset majority, allows terrorists convicted under the framework to face the death penalty and bars their future release in hostage exchange deals.

Israel sharply rejected the criticism, accusing the UN of targeting Israel instead of formally designating Hamas as a terrorist organization and defending the tribunal as a necessary response to the scale and brutality of the October 7 atrocities.
