Hezbollah threatens to ‘destroy’ Israeli troops; Netanyahu ‘not impressed’

After Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah threatened the Jewish state, Netanyahu responded publicly with a statement referencing the bunker in which the arch-terrorist has been hiding for well over a decade.

On Friday, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah delivered a speech on the anniversary of 2006’s Second Lebanon War, claiming that his terror group’s forces would “destroy [Israel’s] troops” if they invaded Lebanon.

“If Israel enters the Lebanese territories, its troops will be destroyed live on television in front of the whole world,” Nasrallah said in the speech, Arutz Sheva reported.

On Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement, responding, “We are not impressed by Nasrallah’s threats. He knows very well why he broadcasts them from the depths of his bunker.”

Netanyahu’s mention of Nasrallah’s bunker was a reference to the fact that the terror group leader has lived in secret underground hideouts since 2006. That year, he bragged to Lebanese newspaper As-Safir that even he didn’t know where he was hiding, Haaretz reported at the time.

Notwithstanding his inability to appear in public for fear of assassination, Nasrallah regularly threatens the Jewish state and boasts of the largesse of his terror group’s primary sponsor, Iran, which lavishes hundreds of millions of dollars on Hezbollah annually.

Nasrallah’s relegation to hiding in underground bunkers since the Second Lebanon War has become a running joke in Israel, with a recent recycling campaign in Tel Aviv using his image and the caption, “I don’t recycle bottles,” followed by the tagline, “Nasrallah has been stuck in a bunker for 12 years. What is your excuse?”

In his “victory” address on Saturday, Nasrallah claimed, “[Israel] is afraid to start a war against us. This happens because of the strenuous work since 2006, Hezbollah prepared itself, trained its men and has armed itself to be fully prepared for confrontation with the enemy,” reported Arutz Sheva.

Nasrallah also referred to recent terrorist attacks targeting Israeli civilians, calling the terrorists who perpetrated Friday’s ramming attack in which a brother and sister were seriously injured “the future generation of Palestine and the resistance.”
